چکیده

Detecting hidden explosive devices in war zones and transportation hubs is a pressing concern. Current efforts have focused on sensing three commonly used powerful explosives: 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazinane (RDX) and pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) (Chart 1). The need for ultratrace detection of these low-volatility compounds has resulted in an intense interest in fluorescence methods, and the direct detection of TNT vapor by amplifying fluorescent polymers is now an established technology.1 However analogous examples of direct RDX or PETN detection are sparse, and current methods rely heavily on ion mobility spectrometry,2a mass spectrometry,2b and, to a lesser extent, detecting either chemically modified RDX3a or its degradation products.3b Herein we present an advance based on a molecular chemosensor (1) for the direct fluorescent detection of RDX and PETN.

Trace Detection of RDX, HMX and PETN Explosives Using a Fluorescence Spot Sensor

1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX), and pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), the major components in plastic explosives, pose a significant threat to public safety. A quick, sensitive, and low-cost detection method for these non-volatile explosives is eagerly demanded. Here we present a fluo-spot approach, which can be employed fo...

Detection of explosives via photolytic cleavage of nitroesters and nitramines.

The nitramine-containing explosive RDX and the nitroester-containing explosive PETN are shown to be susceptible to photofragmentation upon exposure to sunlight. Model compounds containing nitroester and nitramine moieties are also shown to fragment upon exposure to UV irradiation. The products of this photofragmentation are reactive, electrophilic NO(x) species, such as nitrous and nitric acid,...

THz Reflection Spectroscopy of Explosives Measured by Time Domain Spectroscopy

Terahertz range of electromagnetic spectrum (0.1 ÷ 10) THz has focused attention of scientists for years because of many interesting features including existence of spectral fingerprints of many materials (also explosives), through clothing imaging and safety for human being. Such advantages are of great importance for biochemical, defense and security related applications. Scanning of pure exp...

Trends in explosive contamination.

This study sought to assign a rough order of magnitude for the amount of explosive residue likely to be available in real-world searches for clandestine explosives. A variety of explosives (TNT, TATP, HMX, AN, RDX, PETN) in various forms (powder, flake, detonating cord, plastic) were carefully weighed or cut into containers, and the amount of residue inadvertently remaining on the work area, ha...

کاربرد نقاط کوانتومی به عنوان حسگرهای ترکیبات نیترو آروماتیک

Identifying minor amounts of explosives with sensitivity, selectivity, accuracy and speed can be a great advantage for applications related to national security and environmental monitoring.Unfortunately, identification with high reliability of explosives is still a challenge and is largely unfulfilled. Today, fluorescence-based methods are widely used to detect explosives and products derived ...
